Pack Your Sandals and Your Sneakers

Even though you don’t have to leave your Sandals Resort for novelty and adventure, here are some reasons why we did!

There is always something going on at every Sandals Resorts, however, the island of Barbados intrigued us. So, we decided to “Rock on to Electric Avenue” to Bayley’s Plantation, now home to Eddy Grant. This old 444-acre sugarcane plantation amassed outrageous amounts of money on the backs of enslaved Africans. It chilled us to stand below the infamous “hanging tree” where many slaves lost their lives. Shockingly, this tree stands directly in front of the plantation manor house. A plaque dedicated to Bussa, a slave on this land who organized and directed the first slave rebellion that spread to many other plantations, also marks the tree. A statue is dedicated to him in Bridgetown that symbolizes the right of all men and women to live free. A history we must never forget.

Eddy Grant has also brought the plantation and 44 acres of its land back to their spectacular beauty. The sprawling plantation grounds sits high overlooking the south coast of Barbados. Here is a gorgeous site for a destination wedding with a powerful message.
